2023 UAS Roundup Debrief

On September 17 & 18, 2023, Mountain West UAS hosted our 11th UAS Roundup conference. This two-day event included demonstrations at the Buena Vista Drone Training Park on Sunday, then a full day of fun at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort on Monday.

Saturday’s weather could not have been better for the demonstrations. Sunny, not too warm and the winds were light. Featured demonstrations including the Training Park’s certification course by Jeff Singer of the Center of Excellence for Advanced Technical Aerial Firefighting, use of the Flight Deck by MWUAS President Taylor Albrecht, several aircraft flights by MWUAS corporate sponsor Multicopter Warehouse and Ryan Carter, and survey equipment by David Moss with MGS. Chaffee County Search & Rescue - South brought their incredible command trailer for everyone to view. Kelly Bigley of Airspace Link was able to demonstrate their software using this resource. In addition many participants were able to get some stick time with the aircraft.

Monday’s conference featured keynote addresses from Vic Moss of the Drone Service Providers Alliance and the venerable Greg Reverdiau from Pilot Institute, the event’s signature sponsor. The focus of this year’s conference was the near-term challenges being faced by the industry. As such, panel discussions about public acceptance, drone security and foreign manufactured equipment, and remote ID were held. The discussions were lively and very informative.

To wrap up the conference attendees split off into discussion groups and talked about their own experiences with the challenges and possible solutions.

This year’s conference was more intimate with a smaller attendance which allowed for lots of great networking and discussion.

Our appreciation and sincere thanks go to our sponsors, vendors and panelists who made this successful event possible!
