Mountain West UAS Announces new president, changes to Leadership Team

Buena Vista, CO - November 10, 2024 — Zach Doughtery has been elected as the new president of the Mountain West UAS (MWUAS) organization that is dedicated to advancing and promoting unmanned aerial systems (UAS, commonly called drones) education and collaboration.

MWUAS officials said the changes will reflect the organization's commitment to sustainable growth and leadership excellence in the UAS industry.

Dougherty, a Denver-based corporate attorney who is also building a drone law practice, has served as a board member for two years and moderated several annual UAS Roundup events in Buena Vista in recent years. With a proven track record and deep involvement in the UAS community, Dougherty will continue to steer the organization toward future success.

Following many years of dedicated service, Taylor Albrecht, founding president, and Honora Roberts, vice president and secretary, have transitioned to emeritus board members. Albrecht, who led the organization from its inception seven years ago, and Roberts, who contributed six years of service, leave an enduring legacy of innovation, vision, and leadership. Their expertise and guidance will continue to shape Mountain West UAS as Emeritus members.

In addition, several additional leadership changes have been made, bringing fresh perspectives and experience to the Mountain West UAS board:

·       Dennis Heap will continue serving as Treasurer, providing financial oversight and strategic planning expertise.

·       Mike DeSanti and Al Simpson will continue their valued board service as longstanding members.

·       Brian Yohn has been elected as Vice President, while Eric Grumling will assume the role of Secretary. Both have been members for several years and bring experience running UAS businesses.

·       Gina Moretto joins the board, bringing her extensive expertise with FAA Safety and enthusiasm for unmanned aviation to help guide the organization forward.

In addition, Chris Crown and Don Ireland have been named as Board Members in Training. They will contribute their skills and perspectives until future opportunities for full board positions arise.

As Mountain West UAS continues its mission of supporting UAS learn, these leadership changes will further strengthen the organization's ability to drive industry growth and advancement.
