Discover How the Ghost Town Club Maps Colorado’s History—Drones and more!

We’re delighted to welcome members of the Ghost Town Club of Colorado to our December 2024 regular meeting on Saturday, December 7. The meeting will be held at the Central Colorado Airport, 2nd floor, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, with options for both in-person and virtual attendance.

The Ghost Town Club will showcase how they are combining drones, GIS technology, and historical research to preserve Colorado’s past.

This featured program highlights creative methods for documenting and mapping historical sites, using data from satellites, orthophotos, UAS flights, and historical maps. They will also unveil their interactive Mapbox map, which integrates drone-captured photos, videos, and even a 3D photogrammetry model—an immersive way to explore these sites in stunning detail.

Special guests Nathan Doty and Jason Messing will share insights from their own drone projects and touch on how UAS technology is being used to support historical preservation, including a case study on the Old Hundred boarding house.

If you’re ever wondered how modern tools can bring history to life, don’t miss this exciting presentation!
