Eric Grumling
My name is Eric Grumling, I’m the founder of Grand Valley Aviation. I’ve been in Colorado for 20 years. Most of that time I worked in the cable broadband industry, but I’ve always had my head in the clouds. In 2015 I saw a friend’s son flying an FPV quadcopter. Here was something that combined three of my passions: computers, radio and photography. And it reignited an interest in aviation and flying. In 2016 I picked up a Mavic Pro and later an Inspire 1. As I learned about the capabilities of these small flying objects I began to wonder if it was possible to use them for amateur radio (another hobby), and what use they might have for cable companies. This led to experimenting with what I call “payload radios” in different configurations. This in turn led to building my own aircraft and learning the ins and outs of the hardware and software. In 2022 I retired from the cable industry and began working full time on a drone that can map broken cables using radio signals. These days I’m still working on the product but back to work full time for the state of Colorado while I look for partners and investors.
When I’m not flying, I enjoy hiking, camping and amateur radio. Often at the same time.
Gina Moretto
I'm retired military Army aviation maintenance for 3 years and the Air Force Reserve in aircraft maintenance for 19 years including three years as a First Sergeant. I have worked in aviation maintenance since I was 18 years old. I have been with the Federal Aviation Administration as the FAA Safety Program Manager in the Denver Flight Standards District office for many years. I joined Mountain West UAS the first year because I wanted to support their efforts in aviation safety, education and outreach which aligns with my career objectives.
